Nutcrackers and Toy Soldiers Limoges Boxes
Nutcrackers and toy soldiers Limoges boxes form a small honor guard for the holidays. The nutcrackers stand tall in red coats with plumed hats, in burgundy and yellow, and Rochard even bakes one in gingerbread. They post up on bases of gold, green, red and blue, ready for inspection. Toy soldiers fill out the ranks. A Christmas toy chest arrives with its own soldier, an oval box shows the regiment marching, and an Artoria figure stands at attention.
Every soldier is porcelain shaped in Limoges, France, and painted by hand, from the gold buttons down to the black boots. The hinge sits under the base or at the hat, and the clasp holds the lid tight. Rochard also builds the Nutcracker ballet theatre into a box, with the stage set and curtains drawn. Line them up across the fireplace in December and add one recruit every year. They also make a good gift for the father who still sets out the train set.
