Santa Claus and Sleigh Limoges Boxes
Santa Claus Limoges boxes follow the old man on his longest night of the year. He drives a sleigh packed with presents, perches on chimneys and snowy cottage roofs, and sits with a bag of toys. Reindeer are only one option here, and Santa flies a yellow airplane, rides a train on a brass track, drifts above town in a hot air balloon and tears across the snow on a snowmobile. One Santa wears a cowboy hat and boots with a rope over his shoulder for Texas, and another stands on top of the Empire State Building. A set of four nesting Santas fits one inside the next, which is a good trick for a man of his size.
Quieter scenes show Santa with woodland animals, with a polar bear at an igloo, and with a teddy bear by a toy chest. A North Pole letter box and a holiday book with a lift out Santa round out the mail room. Every figure is porcelain, shaped and painted by hand in Limoges, France. Each piece opens on a hinged lid with a metal clasp, and many hide a small present inside. Start a yearly tradition for a grandchild, or line up a few on the mantel and let guests guess which one came first.
