Hanukkah Limoges Boxes
Hanukkah Limoges boxes bring the festival of lights to the shelf in porcelain. Dreidels spin in yellow, white, red and blue, and several Rochard dreidels wear a painted Jerusalem skyline. Menorahs come in round, oval and book shapes, in cobalt, blue and white. Rochard's menorah box hides a lift out candle, and the Western Wall of Jerusalem opens to reveal a tiny Torah. A Hanukkah gelt treasure box looks ready for the dreidel game, with coins painted in gold.
The Star of David appears on round boxes, in blue and white, and on a Hanukkah book. Beyond the holiday, a white mezuzah box and a small round Mazel Tov box mark a new home, a wedding or a bar or bat mitzvah. Each piece is porcelain from Limoges, France, painted by hand and fitted with a hinged lid and clasp, and the blues are fired deep, so they hold their color for decades. Give a dreidel to a grandson who never loses at the game, or a menorah box to a host for the first night. Keep gelt inside for the next round.
