Cars, Planes and Trains Limoges Boxes
Cars, planes and trains Limoges boxes put the whole transit map on one shelf. Porsche sports cars in silver and purple, Grand Prix racers with red stripes, a Formula One car and a pink Cadillac convertible share the garage with a yellow New York taxi, a black London cab and a red double decker bus. The rail line runs through tunnels and snowy mountain villages, and several Rochard locomotives sit on real brass track. Overhead fly a yellow US Navy bomber, a blue airplane, a helicopter and an airport scene with a plane taking off, while hot air balloons drift past in blue and in a patchwork of color. A San Francisco cable car, a safari jeep, an Artoria motorcycle and a yellow school bus fill in the gaps on the ground.
Christmas gets its own fleet, with Santa at the wheel of a car, at the controls of a yellow plane, aboard a train and lifting off in a hot air balloon on a brass stand. For a wedding there is a black Just Married car. Each is Hand-Painted porcelain from Limoges, France, with a hinged lid and a clasp worth fidgeting with. Give the race car to the man who watches every lap, the locomotive to the one with a layout in the basement, and the taxi to anyone who has hailed one on Fifth Avenue.
