Porcelain Heart Limoges Boxes

Heart Limoges boxes are the classic porcelain shape after the egg, and this collection holds close to two hundred of them. Some are plain hearts in burgundy with gold trim, others are covered in flowers, autumn leaves or a fruit basket. A few turn the heart into a perfume bottle. Every heart here was painted by hand in Limoges, France.

One Shape, Many Moods

The heart lets the painters try everything. A blue Rochard heart carries a spray of flowers, a La Gloriette heart splits into yellow and blue, and one Rochard heart is made without a hinge at all, its lid simply lifting free. A cherub on a heart supports breast cancer awareness. Most of the others open on a hinge and shut with a small metal clasp.

For a Wife, a Mother or a Daughter

A heart box says what a card often fumbles. Give the burgundy and gold heart for an anniversary, the autumn leaves heart for a fall birthday, or the perfume bottle heart to a wife who keeps a dressing table. They group well on a dresser or vanity, sorted by color. Many of these boxes have a little charm tucked inside the lid.
