Fairy Tales and Storybook Limoges Boxes
Fairy tales and storybook Limoges boxes open the old books in porcelain. Cinderella leads the way with her coach in yellow, pink and green, a glass slipper and even her wash bucket. Mother Goose appears in green and brown hats, and Humpty Dumpty sits on the wall in a French beret.
Rochard turns favorite storybooks into boxes for Madeline, Little Red Riding Hood and Alice in Wonderland, the last one with a teacup. Curious George climbs onto a storybook, and the Hunchback of Notre Dame gets a volume of his own. A frog prince waits for his kiss, and Merlin the wizard keeps his spell book close. Medieval castles and a pink fairy tale castle book guard the far end of the shelf. A white unicorn, a gnome with a mushroom, three storybook dwarfs and a troll with frogs fill the forest. Each piece is porcelain from Limoges, France, painted by hand and set with a hinged lid. Pick the tale that was read a hundred times at bedtime and give it to the grown daughter who still knows every line. A castle box suits a young reader's first bookshelf.
