Rochard Merry Christmas Oval Limoges Box

A Merry Christmas greeting takes center stage on this oval box, the kind of small, cheerful piece that signals the holidays have arrived. Rochard painted the greeting by hand on this porcelain Limoges box, which comes from the workshops of Limoges, France.

Season's Greetings in Porcelain

There is nothing fussy about the idea: a classic oval form and a warm wish for the season. That simplicity is part of its charm, since the greeting can be read from across the room and the shape sits easily among other boxes. Rochard paints each piece by hand, so the lettering and colors carry the slight variations of real brushwork.

• Anchors a December, Advent or Yuletide collection
• Sits well beside Santa, reindeer and wreath boxes

Bring It Out Each December

Place it on the mantel among the greenery, on a side table near the tree, or at the center of a holiday dessert buffet. It also works as a token for a teacher, a neighbor or a coworker at the office party, and as a first piece for someone just starting a seasonal collection. When the decorations come down in January, it goes back into the holiday bin, ready to greet another year.
