Rochard Santa on the Roof Christmas Limoges Box

Santa Claus has climbed onto the rooftop, ready for the busiest night of his year, in this small Christmas scene. It is a Rochard Limoges box, shaped in hard-paste porcelain and finished with a brush in Limoges, France.

Up on the Housetop

The old carol asks who is up on the housetop, and this piece gives the answer. Rochard is known for lively holiday subjects, and here Santa and the roofline are modeled together as one little sculpture that lifts open as a box. Because every color is laid on by hand, no two finished examples look quite the same.

Where Santa Lands in December

Bring it out with the stockings and give it a spot on the mantel, a sideboard or the table next to a small tree. It suits a family that reads the night before Christmas aloud every year, makes a cheerful holiday thank-you for a neighbor, and pleases the grandparent who decorates every room by the first weekend of December. When the ornaments go back into the attic, it can stay out a little longer on a bookshelf as a reminder of the season.
