Large Beach Cabana Hut Porcelain Limoges Box

This larger porcelain box takes the form of a beach cabana, the kind that lines the sand at a seaside resort. The hut is hand-painted in Limoges, France, in bright summer colors.

Shade by the Shore

Cabanas bring to mind long afternoons by the water, a cool drink and the sound of waves. This box captures that easy feeling, with the hut painted by hand so each one carries its own summer character.

Anchoring the Beach Shelf

It is a bigger piece than most huts in the beach line, so it can anchor a shelf and pull smaller pieces around it. Seashells, sailboats, palm trees and cocktail glasses all look right beside it, building a full beach scene.

Summer All Year

• Hand-painted porcelain from Limoges, France
• Fits a beach, coastal or vacation collection
• Looks right on a beach house bookshelf or a sunroom table

It makes a fine keepsake from a seaside vacation, a housewarming present for a beach house, or a retirement present for someone moving to the coast. It also suits a summer birthday, or a winter pick-me-up for a friend counting the days until the next trip to the beach. Porcelain has been made in Limoges since the late 1700s, after kaolin was found near Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche, and seaside subjects like this cabana show how varied the craft has become.
