Renoir Girl with Watering Can Easel Rochard Limoges Box
A painter's easel holds Renoir's portrait of a young girl with a watering can, one of the best loved paintings of French Impressionism. Rochard brought it to life as a hand-painted porcelain Limoges box, made in Limoges, France, the city where Renoir himself was born.
A Son of Limoges
Pierre-Auguste Renoir was born in Limoges in 1841, and as a teenager he painted designs on porcelain before he ever painted on canvas. That makes this subject especially fitting. The tiny copy of the painting on the easel is done by hand, so each one shows its own brushwork and soft color.
The Gallery Shelf
- A Rochard piece, hand-painted in Limoges, France
- Joins palette, artist easel and other Impressionist painting subjects
- Fits a fine art, museum or French culture collection
For the Painter in the Family
Give it to an art teacher, a museum docent, a watercolor class friend or a student accepted to art school. It also suits a gardener, since the girl and her watering can bring spring flowers to mind. Set it on a studio shelf near the brushes, a bookcase of art books, or a desk under a framed print.
Fine kaolin clay found near Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche in 1768 is what made Limoges a porcelain town in the first place.
