Carnival Carousel Limoges Box in Purple

A merry go round in purple tones turns this porcelain box into a little carnival ride, complete with its canopy and carousel horses. It is a hand-painted Limoges box made in Limoges, France, with the whole ride forming the piece.

Round and Round in Purple

Carousels are one of the most loved themes in Limoges collecting, and the purple version is among the brightest. The painter works the canopy and horses by hand, so the colors and details shift a little from one box to the next.

Calliope Music on the Shelf

It is hard to look at a carousel without hearing the music in your head. This one brings that feeling of a summer fair to a curio cabinet, a nursery shelf or a playroom bookcase for grown-ups who never quite outgrew the ride.

Joining the Midway

• Hand-painted porcelain from Limoges, France
• A colorful fit for a carousel, carnival or circus collection
• Pairs with the pastel green and classic merry go round boxes

Carousel collectors like to gather every color, and this purple ride makes a fine birthday present for anyone whose favorite color is purple, a remembrance of a first date at the county fair, or a happy keepsake for a new grandmother. Many Limoges boxes are hand-painted after the white porcelain is fired, with metal mounts fitted by hand, and a busy subject like this shows that care.
