Rochard Saint Bernard Dog Limoges Box
Big-hearted and broad-shouldered, a Saint Bernard settles in on this Rochard box. The gentle giant of the Alps is shaped in porcelain and hand-painted in Limoges, France.
Hero of the Great Saint Bernard Pass
The breed takes its name from the hospice in the Swiss Alps where monks kept dogs to help travelers caught in snow. Rochard gives this famous rescuer its due with a sturdy body that becomes the box itself. Each coat patch is painted by hand, so every Saint Bernard comes out a little different.
Gentle Giant Company
- A Rochard dog from the Limoges workshops
- Belongs with working dog, mountain or Swiss themed boxes
- Sits nicely beside Newfoundland, Bernese and mastiff pieces
Mountain Lodge Mantel
Ski cabins, chalet style living rooms and winter mantels all suit this dog well. It is also a natural present for a Saint Bernard owner, a search and rescue volunteer or a friend who just returned from Switzerland.
The art of these boxes goes back a long way. Kaolin, the fine white clay behind Limoges porcelain, was found near Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche in 1768, and the city's workshops have been firing it ever since.
