Asian Pagoda Porcelain Limoges Box

An Asian pagoda, with its graceful tiers rising toward the sky, gives this porcelain Limoges box its shape. It was hand-painted in Limoges, France, a piece that brings the temples of the East to a Western shelf.

Temples of the Orient

Pagodas have stood in China, Japan and across Asia for well over a thousand years, often built to house sacred relics. Their layered roofs have inspired decorators for centuries, from the chinoiserie craze in 18th century France to garden follies in English estates.

From Kyoto to Your Curio

Give it to someone just back from a trip to China or Japan, an architecture fan, or a friend who decorates with blue and white chinoiserie. It also suits a scholar of Asian history or a student of martial arts. Set it on a library shelf, a desk or beside a bonsai tree. Its tall, tiered silhouette adds height and an exotic touch to a collection.
