Rochard Chinese Terracotta Warrior Limoges Box
Standing guard as he has for more than two thousand years, a soldier from China's Terracotta Army becomes the subject of this Rochard box. The figure was painted by hand in Limoges, France.
An Army Beneath Xi'an
In 1974, farmers digging a well near Xi'an uncovered the first of thousands of life-size clay warriors buried with Qin Shi Huang, China's first emperor. No two faces among them are exactly alike. Rochard's porcelain version honors one of the great archaeological finds of the twentieth century, with the brushwork done entirely by hand.
