Cow Pattern Milk Pot Porcelain Limoges Box

A country milk pot decorated with a cow brings the dairy farm to the kitchen shelf in this porcelain piece. The Limoges box was painted by hand in Limoges, France, a rustic subject finished with a fine porcelain touch.

Fresh From the Dairy

Before supermarkets, milk came straight from the farm in pots and pails like this, carried in each morning while it was still cool. The cow design makes the theme cheerful and clear, a nod to farmhouse breakfasts and country kitchens. Each pot is decorated by hand, so the cow and colors vary slightly.

From Farm Table to Kiln

Limoges porcelain is hard-paste porcelain fired at very high heat, and the painting on boxes like this is usually added by hand afterward. Give it to a dairy farmer, a cheese maker, a cook who collects farmhouse kitchenware, or a friend who just moved to the country. It suits a kitchen windowsill, an open shelf or a breakfast nook.
