Rochard Blue Crab on Shell Porcelain Limoges Box

A blue crab with its seashell looks as though it just scuttled up from the tide line. This hand-painted porcelain piece is a Rochard Limoges box, made in Limoges, France.

Low Tide Treasure

The crab and its shell together form the box, a small scene from the shore turned into porcelain. Its blue shell is painted by hand, and the shell gives it a natural setting, as if found on a morning walk along the water.

Chesapeake to Carolina

Blue crabs are a summer tradition on much of the East Coast, from crab feasts on the Chesapeake to steamed platters further south. That makes this box a fond reminder for anyone who grew up cracking claws on a newspaper covered table, or who keeps a beach house full of sea life.

The Coastal Collection

• A Rochard sea life design, hand-painted in Limoges, France
• A good fit for coastal, ocean or seafood themed shelves
• Pairs with lobster, starfish, stingray and seashell boxes

Set it on a beach house mantel, a bathroom shelf with a nautical theme, or a desk where you dream of the next trip to the shore. It makes a fitting housewarming present for a new coastal home or a birthday surprise for a Maryland native.
