Bright reef colors swirl across this tropical fish as if it had just darted out from behind the coral. The fish shape forms a porcelain Limoges box, painted by hand and made in Limoges, France, that opens to a small space inside.

Reef Colors in Porcelain

Tropical fish carry some of the boldest colors in nature, and that makes them a joy for a porcelain painter. Each stripe and fin is laid down by hand on the fired porcelain, so no two of these finished boxes are quite the same.

Below the Waterline

  • Hand-painted porcelain made in Limoges, France
  • A natural member of an ocean, beach and sea life grouping
  • Pairs with its companion tropical fish design, starfish and sea turtle pieces

From Snorkel Trip to Shelf

Set it on a bathroom shelf with sea glass, near a home aquarium, or in a beach house hallway. It is a happy reminder of a snorkeling trip, a dive certification or a winter escape to the islands, and a cheerful thank-you for the friend who keeps a saltwater tank.

Fired at High Heat

Limoges porcelain is hard-paste porcelain, fired at very high temperatures, and the town has worked with it since the kaolin deposits near Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche were found in 1768.
