Flat Rectangular Limoges Box with Blue Flowers

Flat and rectangular, this porcelain box carries blue flowers across its low profile, a slim and graceful design for small spaces. It was hand-painted in Limoges, France, as a traditional Limoges box.

A Low Garden in Blue

Flat boxes have a quiet, understated presence, letting the painted flowers do all the talking. Blue blossoms on a rectangle look tidy and fresh, the way a well kept border looks along a garden path.

Slim Lines, Soft Flowers

• Flat rectangular porcelain painted by hand in Limoges, France
• Fits a blue floral, rectangle or low profile collection
• Pairs with the belly shaped and long blue floral boxes

Saint-Yrieix and the White Gold

After kaolin, the fine white clay sometimes called white gold, was found near Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche in 1768, Limoges grew into the porcelain capital of France. Boxes like this one are still painted by hand after the white porcelain is fired. Its slim shape suits a desk, a dresser or a narrow glass shelf, and it makes a thoughtful present for a writer, a teacher or a friend who favors blue.
