Flat Light Blue Rectangle Limoges Box with Flowers

Flat and rectangular, this light blue box carries painted flowers across its broad lid like a little framed watercolor. It is a hand-painted Limoges porcelain box, made in Limoges, France, with a soft, airy look.

A Watercolor in Porcelain

The low, flat shape gives the painter a wide surface, so the flowers can spread out the way they would on a postcard or a small canvas. Light blue behind them feels like a spring sky, calm and fresh. Up close, the brushwork on each petal becomes easier to admire.

Pastel Partners

• Hand-painted on porcelain in Limoges, France
• Fits a floral, pastel or blue-themed collection
• Lies neatly at the front of a shelf, in front of taller boxes

Places for a Low Profile

Because it sits low, this box works well on a vanity tray, a nightstand or the front edge of a curio shelf where taller pieces would block the view. It makes a gentle present for a baby shower hostess, a spring birthday, a new grandmother or anyone who loves soft blue rooms. Paired with the light blue floral purse, it gives a pastel shelf a sense of harmony.

From Kaolin to Color

Limoges porcelain owes its start to the white kaolin clay found near Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche in 1768. Every pastel tone on this box rests on that same pale clay.
