Orange Flowers on Light Blue Rectangular Limoges Box

Bright orange flowers bloom on a light blue ground across this rectangular porcelain box, a cheerful pairing of warm and cool color. The rectangle is a traditional Limoges box, fired and brushed by hand in Limoges, France.

Marigolds on a Morning Sky

Orange and pale blue sit opposite each other on the color wheel, which is why the flowers seem to glow against the background. The rectangle is a simple, traditional shape that gives the painter a broad, flat lid to work across.

Where It Brightens a Room

Set it on a desk in a home office, a bedside table in a guest room, or a bathroom shelf with blue towels and a sprig of fresh flowers. It makes a thoughtful birthday present for someone with a summer birthday, a cheerful get-well token, or a thank-you to a neighbor who shares cuttings from the garden. Because the shape is plain and the colors bold, it fits nicely into both classic and modern rooms.
