Brown Flowers on White Round Hand-Painted Limoges Box

Brown flowers on a white ground give this round porcelain box a calm, earthy character that feels at home in a study or a sunroom. It is a hand-painted Limoges box made in the French town of Limoges.

Autumn Tones, Any Season

Brown is not a color you often see on painted flowers, and that is what gives this box its quiet charm. The warm tones recall pressed flowers, sepia botanical prints and the colors of late autumn. Against white porcelain, the blooms stand out clearly without ever feeling loud.

A Natural Fit

• Painted by hand in Limoges, France, on fine porcelain
• Suits a floral or neutral-toned collection
• Blends with wood furniture, leather books and linen

For Quiet Corners

Set it on a study shelf among leather-bound books, on a bedside table in a room done in creams and tans, or on a writing desk next to a fountain pen. It suits a friend with understated taste, a fall birthday, or a thank-you for someone whose home leans toward natural colors. Paired with the tall brown floral box, it starts a warm-toned grouping that stands apart from the usual pinks and blues.

Brushwork Over White Clay

On many Limoges boxes, colors like these brown petals go on by hand only after the white porcelain has been fired at high heat.
