Owl on Book Porcelain Limoges Box
A wise old owl has found the perfect perch on top of a thick book, keeping watch over the library after hours. The book forms the base of this porcelain Limoges box, and the whole piece was painted by hand and made in Limoges, France.
Night Shift at the Library
Owls have stood for wisdom since ancient Athens, where the bird was tied to the goddess of learning. Putting one on a book makes the meaning clear, and the feathers and binding are brushed in by hand so each piece has its own character.
Who Earns a Wise Owl
- A graduate finishing high school, college or a doctorate
- A teacher, professor or school librarian at year's end
- A writer, editor or book club host
Between the Bookends
Its natural home is a bookshelf, tucked between favorite volumes, or on a study desk next to a reading lamp. It also suits a classroom shelf, a law office or a home library. Collectors of owls often place it with barn owl, snowy owl and great horned owl pieces, while readers like to pair it with other book themed boxes. It is hand-painted porcelain from Limoges, France, and it makes a thoughtful marker for the end of any long stretch of study.
