Oval Hunting Scene Limoges Box in Relief

$129.00 $229.00

A hunting scene rises in relief on this oval porcelain box, giving the painted picture real depth under the fingertips. The scene was colored by hand in Limoges, France, on a classic Limoges box.

Tally Ho in Relief

Raised decoration catches light and shadow in a way flat painting cannot, so the hunting scene seems to move as you turn the box. Sporting art has a long history in country houses on both sides of the Atlantic, and this oval carries that tradition in miniature.

Lodge and Library

  • Hand-painted porcelain from Limoges, France
  • Pairs with hound, pheasant and duck pieces in a sporting grouping
  • Suits a country lodge, cabin or traditional den

For the Field Sports Crowd

This makes a fitting present for a hunter on a birthday or Father's Day, a thank-you for a hunting guide, or a memento of a first season in the field. It also suits a member of a hunt club, a sporting clays enthusiast, or anyone who keeps prints of hounds and horses on the walls.

Fired Hard, Painted Soft

Limoges porcelain is hard-paste porcelain, fired at very high heat, which holds raised detail crisply. Paint goes on after firing, by hand. Display this oval on a wood-paneled shelf, a leather-topped desk, or a mantel beside brass candlesticks.
