Rabbit and Carrot Egg Hand-Painted Limoges Box

A rabbit and a carrot are painted on this egg, a pairing that says springtime the moment you see it. It is a hand-painted porcelain Limoges box made in Limoges, France, and the top half lifts off as the lid.

Hop Into Spring

Rabbits have been linked to Easter and the return of spring for centuries, a symbol of new life and fresh beginnings. Adding a carrot gives the scene a playful, garden patch feeling. The rabbit and carrot are painted by hand in Limoges, so the expression and colors vary a little between eggs.

Garden Patch Gatherings

Tuck it into an Easter basket, set it at the center of a brunch table, or let it sit on a kitchen shelf through spring. It is a lovely present for a gardener, a rabbit owner, or anyone born under the Chinese Year of the Rabbit. Many collectors bring it out each March and set it beside potted herbs on the windowsill.
