Turtle Gardener with Lettuce Porcelain Limoges Box

Slow, patient and devoted to the vegetable patch, this turtle gardener is tending a fine head of lettuce. The piece is a porcelain Limoges box, hand-painted in Limoges, France, and the design is retired.

Tending the Lettuce Row

Gardening rewards patience, which makes the turtle a natural choice of gardener. This one appears proud of its lettuce, and the scene has the calm, good-natured feel of an early morning spent in the garden.

Potting Bench Favorite

Keep it on a potting bench shelf, a kitchen windowsill next to the herbs, or in a sunroom with houseplants. It makes a thoughtful present for a master gardener, a community garden volunteer, a slow-and-steady friend reaching a milestone, or anyone who plants lettuce each spring.

A good-humored piece that celebrates the quiet pleasure of watching things grow, one leaf at a time, over a long and patient season.
