The peel is pulled back partway on this porcelain banana, showing the pale fruit inside as though someone is about to take a bite. It is a hand-painted porcelain Limoges box made in Limoges, France, a playful take on the most familiar snack in the lunchbox.

Halfway to a Snack

A whole banana is cheerful, but a half peeled one tells a story. This piece catches the fruit mid snack, which gives it a sense of humor and movement that a plain fruit box lacks. It is a favorite with collectors who like their porcelain with a wink.

Peel Appeal

  • Limoges porcelain, hand-painted
  • Fits a fruit, food or kitchen collection
  • Pairs with the whole yellow banana box for a before and after

Fired, Then Painted

Many Limoges boxes are painted by hand only after the white porcelain has been fired, which is how a piece like this gets its crisp contrast between peel and fruit. Set it on a breakfast table, an office shelf or beside a fruit bowl, and give it to a smoothie maker, a personal trainer or a coworker who always keeps a banana at the desk.
