Rochard Watermelon Porcelain Limoges Box, Removable Slice

A juicy watermelon arrives with a removable slice, just like cutting into the real fruit on a hot afternoon. Rochard made this Limoges box in porcelain and painted every part by hand in Limoges, France.

Slice of the Dog Days

Watermelon is the taste of summer for so many people, from backyard barbecues to Fourth of July picnics. Rochard captures that happy season with the whole melon and a slice you can lift away and set beside it. Each piece is painted by hand, so the finished sets differ slightly.

Sweet Summer Celebrations

This makes a fun present for a July or August birthday, a summer hostess, or a farmer who grows melons. It also suits a teacher at the end of the school year or a friend who hosts the neighborhood cookout. Display it on a kitchen shelf, a screened porch table or a beach house mantel, with the slice set at an angle beside the melon. Fruit collectors love removable pieces because they make a display feel lively, and this one brings back memories of seed spitting contests and sticky fingers.
