Blue Rectangular Limoges Box with Painted Roses
Painted roses bloom across this blue rectangular box, a cool backdrop that lets the flowers take center stage. It is a hand-painted porcelain Limoges box from Limoges, France, with the clean lines of a rectangle softened by a classic rose motif.
Roses in a Blue Frame
Roses have been a favorite subject for porcelain painters for centuries, and setting them on blue gives the blooms a crisp, tailored look. The rectangle works almost like a small canvas, with the flowers arranged across the lid as though in a still life.
A Rose Garden Shelf
- Hand-painted porcelain from Limoges, France
- Suits a rose, floral or blue porcelain grouping
- Complements rectangle, trunk and chest shaped pieces
June Birthdays and Beyond
The rose is the flower of June, which makes this a natural choice for a June birthday or a summer wedding. It also works as an anniversary present or a thank-you for a gardener who grows prize roses. Show it on a dresser, a library table or a mirrored tray, ideally beside other blue pieces to build a cohesive look.
The Painter's Final Step
Many Limoges boxes are painted by hand only after the white porcelain has been fired, and their metal mounts are fitted by hand as well.
