Round Turquoise and Pink Roses Hand-Painted Limoges Box

Soft pink roses open across a cool turquoise ground on this round porcelain box, a color pairing that feels both fresh and old-fashioned at once. Shaped and decorated by hand in Limoges, France, this porcelain Limoges box keeps its roses bright and clear.

Roses on a Lagoon of Blue

Turquoise is not the color most people expect behind a rose, and that is exactly what makes this piece work. The blue-green ground cools everything down, while the pink petals warm it back up, so the eye keeps moving around the lid. The round form lets the flowers circle without a break, much like a wreath seen from above.

Company for the Rose Garden

• Painted by hand on French porcelain in Limoges
• A bright note in a rose, cottage garden or pastel grouping
• Sits nicely beside a turquoise square box with pink flowers from the same palette

A Spot by the Window

Natural light flatters turquoise, so try it on a sunny dresser, a bathroom vanity or the front of a bedroom curio. It suits a June birthday, a gardener who grows climbing roses, or a friend whose favorite color sits somewhere between blue and green. Many collectors start with a simple round box like this one and build outward by color, and this one gives a collection a clear starting palette to follow.
