Baby Elephant Porcelain Figurine Limoges Box

A baby elephant, still finding its footing on the savanna, makes a sweet and lucky subject for this porcelain piece, painted by hand as a Limoges box in the French city of Limoges.

Little Trunk, Big Heart

Elephant calves stay close to their mothers for years, and the herd watches over every one of them. That gentle family bond is part of why elephants appeal to so many collectors, along with their long-standing reputation as a sign of good luck. Each baby elephant is colored by hand, so no two finished pieces are quite the same.

Old Craft, New Arrivals

Limoges porcelain is hard-paste porcelain, fired at very high heat, which gives it the bright white body that painters work on. Small boxes like this one carry a tradition that has been popular in France since the 1700s.

Joining the Herd

• Hand-painted porcelain from Limoges, France
• Groups with giraffe, lion, zebra and mother elephant pieces
• A sweet present for a baby shower, a new grandchild or an elephant fan

Set it on a nursery shelf, in a curio cabinet with other safari animals, or on a desk where it can bring a little luck to the workday.
