Black Cat and Butterfly Rochard Limoges Box

A black cat has spotted a butterfly and cannot look away, caught in that frozen moment just before the pounce. Rochard made this playful scene as a hand-painted porcelain Limoges box in Limoges, France.

The Hunter and the Flutter

Every cat owner has watched this exact scene through a window: a tail twitching, eyes fixed on a butterfly drifting just out of reach. Black cats have long carried superstitions, but here the mood is all curiosity and charm. The glossy coat and the butterfly's wings are painted by hand.

Black Cat Appreciation

It makes a fine present for anyone who has adopted a black cat, a shelter volunteer, or a friend who loves Halloween all year long. It also suits a garden lover with a butterfly bush, or a cat sitter who knows every household pet by name. Set it on a windowsill, a garden room shelf or a desk next to a photo of the real cat.
