Boxer Dog with Gloves Porcelain Limoges Box

A Boxer dog with a pair of gloves makes for a neat little pun, and this porcelain piece plays it straight with a wink. Painted by hand in Limoges, France, this retired Boxer design has been out of the catalog for some time.

In This Corner

The breed name does the work: a Boxer and boxing gloves, together in one porcelain scene. It is the kind of piece that gets a second look and a smile from anyone who catches the joke, and the hand-painting keeps it warm rather than cartoonish.

Ringside Notes

• A retired design, out of production for years
• Fits a Boxer, dog breed or sports pun collection
• Pairs well with boxing, gym and other sporting pieces

A Knockout on the Shelf

It looks right on a desk in a home gym, on a bookcase in a den, or among other dog breed figures. Give it to a Boxer owner for a birthday, to a boxing or fitness fan who loves dogs, or to a trainer as a light-hearted thank you.

Painted After the Fire

Many Limoges boxes are painted by hand after the white porcelain has been fired, and their metal mounts are fitted by hand as well. That handwork is part of why older designs like this are sought out.
