Brown Sailboat Porcelain Limoges Box with Brass

Warm brown and touches of brass give this porcelain sailboat the look of a polished wooden yacht tied up at the dock. Painters in Limoges, France, finished this figural Limoges box by hand.

Teak and Brass

Classic wooden boats, with varnished hulls and gleaming fittings, are a world of their own for sailors who love tradition. This design borrows that palette, pairing a deep brown with brass for a richer, more masculine look than the usual white and blue nautical pieces.

A Captain's Desk

• Hand-painted porcelain from Limoges, France
• Sits well with ship's wheel, compass and anchor pieces
• Suits a wooden boat, harbor town or study nautical collection

Shore Leave Ideas

Consider it for a Father's Day surprise, a retirement for a harbor master, or a thank-you to the friend who took you out on the bay last summer. Its brown and brass tones blend with leather chairs, wood paneling and bookshelves, so it fits easily into a study, a library or a home office. Many collectors place it near a barometer or a framed sea chart, where the earthy colors carry the nautical theme without bright contrast. It looks equally at home on a mahogany sideboard in a lake house dining room.
