Insects on White Trunk Hand-Painted Limoges Box

Painted bugs crawl across a clean white trunk on this porcelain box, a quirky mix of creepy and charming that suits Halloween or a nature lover's desk. The bugs were brushed on by hand in Limoges, France, where this porcelain Limoges box was made.

Creepy Crawly Cargo

Insects are an unexpected subject for fine porcelain, which is exactly why this box makes people stop and look. Against the white trunk, the painted bugs stand out like specimens in a naturalist's cabinet. It plays with the idea of old luggage stowed in an attic, where a few small visitors have moved in.

Cabinet of Curiosities

• Hand-painted porcelain from Limoges, France
• Fits an insect, nature, Halloween or trunk collection
• Pairs with spider, bat and pumpkin pieces in October

Who Gets the Joke

This box is a clever present for an entomologist, a biology teacher, a gardener who knows every beetle by name, or anyone who loves a bit of spooky fun. Set it out with the Halloween decorations in October, then move it to a study shelf next to field guides for the rest of the year. A white trunk keeps it bright enough for everyday display, so it is never just a seasonal piece.
