Heart Limoges Box with Butterfly by Rochard
A butterfly and a heart meet on this Rochard box, the heart giving the porcelain its shape and the butterfly adding a breath of the garden. Painters at the Rochard studio in Limoges, France, finished it by hand.
Fluttering Hearts
Butterflies have long stood for change, hope and the soul, while the heart speaks of love. Put together, they make a piece that works for romance as easily as remembrance. It is soft and sentimental without being fussy, and it fits into almost any room.

Moments Worth Marking
Give it on Mother's Day, an anniversary, or a birthday for a sister or close friend. It is also a tender choice in a time of loss, since many people see a butterfly as a sign from someone they miss. Display it on a vanity, a nightstand, or a windowsill shelf where the garden is in view, and let it hold a favorite ring or a pair of small earrings.
Old Roots, New Shapes
Porcelain boxes like this one descend from the tiny snuff and patch boxes carried in 18th-century France.
