Octagonal Butterfly Limoges Box by Rochard

Eight neat sides frame a butterfly on this Rochard box, a formal octagonal shape that sets the wings off like a specimen in a garden journal. Rochard shaped the porcelain and its painters added the butterfly by hand, all in Limoges, France.

Wings Within Eight Sides

The octagon is a traditional form in Limoges, giving a box crisp corners and a tailored outline that a round shape cannot. Placing a butterfly on it softens those angles with a bit of garden life. The painting is done by hand, so the colors on each wing vary slightly from one box to the next.

Flutter to the Vanity

A dressing table, a writing desk or a sunlit windowsill shelf all suit this shape well. It is a lovely present for a gardener on a spring birthday, a butterfly garden volunteer, or a mother on Mother's Day, and a fine pick for anyone who keeps a butterfly bush outside the kitchen window. Grouped with round and heart shaped butterfly boxes, the octagon adds variety to a display.
