Mini Turtle Oval Porcelain Limoges Box

A tiny turtle has made itself at home in this smooth oval porcelain box, taking its time as turtles always do. This compact piece is a hand-painted Limoges box made in Limoges, France, small enough to tuck into the busiest curio shelf.

Slow and Steady Wins

Turtles have stood for patience, long life and good luck in many cultures, which helps explain why so many people collect them. The plain oval shape keeps the eye on the little turtle itself.

Where the Turtle Settles In

A beach house bookshelf, a lake cottage mantel or a desk at the office all make good homes for it. Give it as a good luck token to a graduate or someone starting a new job, or as a gentle reminder to a busy friend that slow and steady still gets there.

An Old French Tradition

Small porcelain boxes became popular in 18th-century France, when fashionable people carried them for snuff, pills and beauty patches. Today they are collected for the subjects painted on them.
