Mouse on a Mushroom Porcelain Limoges Box

A small mouse perches on top of a mushroom, keeping watch over the forest floor from its colorful lookout. This is a hand-painted porcelain Limoges box made in Limoges, France, and it brings a little storybook charm to a garden shelf.

Lookout on the Toadstool

Mice and mushrooms belong together in countless picture books and fairy tales, and this piece borrows that cozy imagery. The mushroom becomes a perfect perch, and the mouse looks entirely at home at the top of its world.

Cottage Corners

It looks right at home on a cottage kitchen windowsill, a garden room shelf or a bookshelf beside well loved storybooks. Mouse collectors will want it, and it makes a sweet present for a gardener, a cheese lover's birthday, or a thank-you for a librarian who reads aloud at story hour. In autumn it fits a harvest shelf with acorns and leaves.

Painted After the Firing

Many Limoges boxes are hand-painted only once the white porcelain has come out of the kiln, with their metal mounts then fitted by hand.
