Rochard Gardeners Best Dirt Oval Limoges Box

Gardeners Know The Best Dirt, reads the cheeky saying on this oval Rochard Limoges box. It is hand-painted in Limoges, France, and it gives the green-thumbed a laugh they will recognize right away.

Down to Earth Humor

Every serious gardener has opinions about compost, soil and mulch, and this piece turns that passion into a wink. The oval shape gives the saying room to stand out. Rochard paints each one by hand, so the lettering and colors vary slightly from box to box.

Gifts for the Green Thumb

This makes a fun thank-you for a garden club president, a master gardener volunteer, or a neighbor who shares tomatoes every August. It also suits a friend celebrating a spring birthday, a retiree who finally has time for the vegetable patch, or a landscaper starting a new business. Set it on a potting bench shelf, a sunroom windowsill or a kitchen counter near a pot of herbs, where the joke gets read by every guest.

A Tradition Born in Snuff Boxes

In eighteenth-century France, small porcelain boxes held snuff, pills and beauty patches. Limoges painters still carry that tradition forward with pieces like this one.
