Hand-Painted Hippopotamus Limoges Box for Safari Lovers

Round, gentle-looking and surprisingly graceful in the water, the hippopotamus is one of Africa's most beloved giants. This Limoges box shows the river dweller in hand-painted porcelain from France, with a friendly face that wins over every visitor.

Gentle Giant of the River

Safari travelers often say the hippos are the animals they remember most, wallowing in the shallows with only their eyes and ears showing. This little figure carries that memory home, a reminder of early mornings on the riverbank and the sounds of the African bush.

For the Wildlife Collector

It makes a fine souvenir after a safari in Kenya or Tanzania, a gift for a zoo volunteer, or a cheerful addition to a child's nursery shelf. Group it with an elephant, a giraffe or a lion to build a full savanna scene in a curio cabinet.

Hard-Paste Strength

Limoges porcelain is fired at very high temperatures, which gives it a dense, durable body that keeps its painted colors bright for generations.
