Large Sailboat Porcelain Limoges Box

Made in the large size, this porcelain sailboat has real presence on a shelf or mantel. It is a hand-painted Limoges box, made in Limoges, France, sized to anchor a nautical display.

Under Full Canvas

Sailboats are one of the classic subjects in figural Limoges boxes, and the large size of this design gives the painter room to show off the hand-painted color. Every finished boat differs a little from the next, a mark of the brush rather than the machine.

Ports of Call

• Hand-painted porcelain from Limoges, France
• Leads a fleet of lighthouse, anchor and seashell pieces
• Belongs in a sailing, beach house or yacht club collection

Fair Winds and Following Seas

This is a fitting present for a sailor who just earned a skipper's certification, a couple celebrating a boat purchase, or a retiree heading for a life on the water. In a lake cabin, a coastal cottage or a den lined with nautical charts, its larger scale holds its own beside framed photos and brass instruments. Some collectors build an entire harbor around one piece like this, adding smaller boats and buoys around it.
