Light Blue Lamp Limoges Box with Sailboat and Lighthouse

A light blue table lamp painted with a sailboat and a lighthouse brings a breath of sea air to this hand-painted porcelain Limoges box. It was made in Limoges, France, and it is a decorative figurine box rather than a working lamp.

A Beacon for the Bookshelf

Lighthouses guide sailors home, and a sailboat heading toward one is a picture of safe harbor after a long day on the water. Painting that scene on a lamp shape is a clever touch, since both lamp and lighthouse are about bringing light to dark places.

Ports of Call for Display

Small porcelain boxes became fashionable in 18th-century France for keeping snuff, pills and beauty patches, and coastal themes like this one keep that tradition lively today. Set it on a cottage bookshelf, a boat cabin shelf or a nightstand in a lake house guest room. It makes a warm present for a sailor, a yacht club member, a lighthouse enthusiast, or anyone who grew up near the shore and misses the sound of the waves.
