Miniature Lettuce Retired Limoges Box

A single head of lettuce, leafy and green, is the whole subject of this modest little porcelain box. It was hand-painted in Limoges, France, as a Limoges box, and the design has been retired.

Straight From the Salad Bed

Vegetables are some of the most charming subjects in porcelain because they are so humble. Here the ruffled leaves of a garden lettuce get the full painted treatment, turning a salad green into a tiny sculpture. It is the kind of piece that makes people look twice and then laugh.

Rows in the Kitchen Garden

• A retired design, made and painted in Limoges, France
• Joins carrots, peppers and other mini vegetable boxes
• Fits a garden, nature or healthy kitchen theme

A Gardener's Windowsill

Set it on a kitchen windowsill above the sink, on a potting bench shelf indoors, or in a curio cabinet beside other produce pieces. It is a fun thank-you for the neighbor who shares extra greens every summer, a nod to a vegetarian cook, or a present for someone who just planted a first raised bed.

Lined up with other retired vegetables, it helps build a tidy porcelain kitchen garden that grows one box at a time.
