Rochard Monarch Butterfly Limoges Box on Brass Flower

A monarch butterfly comes to rest on a brass flower, wings poised for its next flight. This garden piece is a Rochard Limoges box that pairs hand-painted porcelain with a bright metal blossom, made in Limoges, France.

The Great Migration

Each fall, monarchs travel thousands of miles from Canada and the United States to winter in the mountain forests of Mexico. That remarkable journey has made the monarch a symbol of endurance, change and hope.

Gardens of Remembrance

Because butterflies so often stand for transformation and new beginnings, this piece makes a meaningful present for a graduation, a recovery, a new chapter, or a gentle note of sympathy. Gardeners who plant milkweed for the monarchs will smile at it.

Metal and Porcelain Together

Many Limoges boxes are painted by hand after the white porcelain is fired, and their metal mounts are fitted by hand too. Here the brass flower adds a gleaming touch that catches window light on a dresser, a sunroom shelf or a garden themed curio cabinet.
