Flat Turquoise and Pink Flower Limoges Box

Low and flat, this rectangle lets turquoise and pink flowers spread across its surface like a painted tile from a garden villa. The flowers were brushed on by hand in Limoges, France, where this porcelain box was made.

Tile From a Garden Villa

The flat rectangle is a classic Limoges form, giving the painter a wide, even canvas. Here turquoise and pink blooms are paired for a fresh, summery palette that feels a little Mediterranean. The simple shape keeps the eye on the flowers rather than on the form.

Turquoise Waters, Pink Petals

Turquoise brings a cool, coastal note, while pink softens it with warmth, so the box looks at home in a beach cottage or a classic bedroom. The low profile slides neatly onto a desk, a nightstand or a vanity tray without crowding other pieces. It is a gracious choice for a hostess, a bridesmaid or a friend who favors aqua tones.

Clay From Saint-Yrieix

Porcelain making in Limoges began in the late 1700s, after fine white kaolin clay was found near Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche in 1768.
