Porcelain Turtle Limoges Box with Painted Flowers

A turtle with flowers blooming across its back is the subject of this porcelain figurine box, part garden creature and part keepsake. It is a hand-painted porcelain Limoges box made in Limoges, France, and the floral painting turns a humble reptile into something cheerful.

A Shell Full of Blossoms

Turtles carry their homes with them, and this one seems to carry a whole flower bed. The painted blooms soften the shape and give it a springtime feel, while the turtle form keeps it grounded as an animal piece that collectors of critters will recognize right away.

Slow and Steady Wins a Shelf

Turtles have long stood for patience, long life and steady progress, which makes this box a thoughtful marker for a graduation, a retirement or a milestone birthday. It is also a gentle present for a gardener, since the flowers and the garden visitor go hand in hand.

Where It Fits In

• Hand-painted porcelain from Limoges, France
• Joins turtle, reptile, animal or garden groupings
• Pairs with frog, snail and ladybug pieces

A Garden Visitor Indoors

Give it a windowsill near potted herbs, a sunny bookshelf or a curio cabinet beside other small creatures. The flowers keep it bright through the gray months, and in spring it sits naturally among Easter and garden-themed pieces.
