Mother Whale and Calf Rochard Limoges Box

A mother whale glides through the deep with her calf close at her side, a gentle scene of ocean life. Rochard made this Limoges box in porcelain, with the pair painted by hand in Limoges, France.

Songs of the Deep

Whale calves travel beside their mothers for many months, learning the long migration routes and the songs of their kind. Rochard captures that bond in a simple, tender design. Every detail is painted by hand, so each finished pair has its own small variations.

From the Coast With Love

This makes a thoughtful present for a new mother, a baby shower for a family that loves the sea, or a Mother's Day surprise. It also suits a marine biologist, an aquarium volunteer, or a traveler back from a whale watching trip in Alaska, Hawaii or New England. Display it on a beach house mantel, a bathroom shelf with seashells, or a nursery bookcase. Ocean collectors and mother and baby collectors will both find a home for this peaceful pair.
