Porcelain Christmas Limoges Boxes

Christmas Limoges boxes cover the whole holiday in porcelain, from a red nutcracker on a blue base to a laughing Rochard snowman and a nativity stable done up to look like wood and moss. Bells, drums and stars fill out the tree, and a cat perched on a rooftop chimney keeps an eye out for the sleigh.

Toy Soldiers and Sleigh Bells

The old French workshop toys show up here: a guard soldier standing on a bell, a teddy bear on a toy chest and a penguin stacked with a snowman like a nesting doll. A dated 1993 bell sits beside an unsigned star, and a small sledder from La Gloriette races past a stand of pines.

Painted While the Snow Falls in Limousin

Every piece is fired near Limoges, France, then painted by hand with fine brushes and set with a brass clasp. Many boxes keep a little surprise piece inside, like a wrapped present or a tiny ornament, and a Rochard nativity votive glows when a candle is lit within.

One for Every Stocking

Pick a new piece each December and mark the year on the base with a pen. After a decade, the windowsill tells the family story better than any photo album, and the youngest grandson will know which drum came first.
