Floral Egg Limoges Boxes
Floral egg Limoges boxes are porcelain eggs used as a canvas for flowers. Sevres style roses circle a blue shell, sunflowers and daisies cover a large yellow egg, and Rochard paints lily of the valley across a white one. These are garden eggs for every month of the year, with no bunny in sight.
Some are footed and stand on small bases, others lie flat on the shelf. Madame Pompadour pink sprays, raised porcelain blossoms, embossed sunflower charms and a turquoise egg with a pink blossom and butterfly all turn up here. A few open to a little perfume bottle, and two carry upright picture frames for a favorite photograph. Each one is shaped and painted by hand in Limoges, France, and closed with a hinge and clasp. Line a row of them in a shallow bowl as a centerpiece, or pick one with her favorite flower for a birthday or Mother's Day. A rose egg on a nightstand outlasts any bouquet from the florist and never drops a petal on the dresser.
